Frank Ocean Beats Father in Defamation Lawsuit

Frank Ocean Beats Father in Defamation Lawsuit

Frank Ocean In Your Face, Dad! Wins Defamation Suit

Frank Ocean‘s father got his day in court and lost the defamation suit he filed against his son for calling him a bigot.

The singer’s dad, Calvin Cooksey, had sued him … claiming Frank defamed him with a social media post recalling a story from his childhood. Frank said his pop had called a transgender waitress “a f****t.”

A judge heard the case in L.A. Tuesday, and ruled in favor of Frank … saying Cooksey failed to prove his son had defamed him at all. Frank’s attorney tells us, “It was a sad case, but we are glad that it ended in Frank’s favor and that it is over.”

Blake Lively Is Upset Ryan Reynolds Gets to Play

Blake Lively Is Upset Ryan Reynolds Gets to Play

Blake Lively has no illusions about what it means to be a woman in Hollywood—right down to the types of roles she can play.

In a recent interview for Vanity Fair’s podcast, “The Limelight,” the All I See Is You star got candid about the inherent sexism in the film industry. Specifically, the 30-year-old pointed out how a widespread “double standard” limits her and other female actors to “likable” roles, while male actors, like her husband, Ryan Reynolds, can play the part of jerks and still be considered charming.

“I mean, my husband plays a**holes [but], you go, ‘He’s so charming.’ Because he is likable… or you look at Harrison Ford as Han Solo and he’s like, ‘Get over here, sweetheart,’ and you just sort of [think], ‘Whoo, it’s so exciting and romantic and titillating.’ It’s because he’s charming and he’s loving and he’s not some sexist a**hole,” Lively noted. “But, you don’t see that and think, ‘Oh, that guy’s not likable.'”

The mother of two continued: “But you would read on a page and you just know, ‘Oh, it’s a man, he’ll be charming. But if you read that on a page as a woman, they would never let you say that line because the note would always be, ‘Oh, you just have to make sure she’s likable.'”

Lively pointed to her most recent film, The Rhythm Section, as proof. “I play a heroin-addicted prostitute. Going back to the likable thing… you always see that thing in movies where if a woman is a prostitute or a sex worker, you always think, ‘I don’t want the guys to be grossed out by her,'” she said. “We have to still make her kind of sexy… tragically sexy, but you know, music video.”

“If you drive down skid row that’s not what you see. That’s not the truth,” she continued. “So it’s really important to us to show a woman who society has written off, and society has forgotten about.”

We feel ya, girl!

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban as well as Luke Bryan and Caroline Boyer were just some of the power couples that walked the red carpet together outside Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center.

And while it’s always fun to talk fashion, tonight’s event is so much more than that.

Organizers recently announced that the eighth-annual special will be transformed into a night of hope and healing following the devastating hurricanes and mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival.

“Given the devastation of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria and the mass shootings in Las Vegas, we feel a commitment to our fans to address all of the tragedies not in one somber and solemn moment or segment, but rather devote the entire evening to uplifting the fans through high-spirited music,” said Frank Tanki, General Manager of CMT and TV Land. “Both ‘Rise Up’ and ‘Stand Up for Something’ are inspirational anthems that perfectly sum the message for the evening.”

Frank added, “The special has always been a place where artists from different genres can stand side-by-side, and now more than ever, we want to showcase the power of unity and resilience through music.”

Before the performances begin and heartfelt messages are spread to the audience, we wanted to reveal who’s attending the very special night in our gallery below.

Rose McGowan Cancels Film Festival Appearance Following Her Harvey Weinstein Allegations

Rose McGowan Cancels Film Festival Appearance Following Her Harvey Weinstein Allegations

Rose McGowan has pulled out of a number of public appearances at a Kansas film festival.

On Wednesday evening, less than 24 hours before McGowan was scheduled to be honored at the Tallgrass Film Festival with an Ad Astra Award, organizers announced the actress would no longer be coming.

“We are sorry to announce that we’ve just been informed that Rose McGowan has canceled all upcoming public appearances due to compounding factors surrounding recent revelations in the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment case,” the festival said in a press release.

“While we’re disappointed that Rose cannot be here with us in person, we understand that her well being is the priority. We support her and our thoughts are with her. We’ll seize this opportunity to amplify her message and celebrate all the women filmmakers with works here at the 15th annual festival,” said Tallgrass creative director Lela Meadow-Conner.

Originally, McGowan was also scheduled to attend a screening of her directorial debut, Dawn.

In place of McGowan’s appearance, Tallgrass also announced there will be a panel of women filmmakers called “#WokeWomen: A Candid Conversation with Tallgrass’ Female Filmmakers.”

“The whole world is now aware, in large part due to Rose’s efforts, about the rampant sexual harassment within the entertainment industry, and so in her honor, we have pulled together a panel of women filmmakers who will be attending the festival with their films, for a frank conversation, because the message doesn’t stop here,” said Meadow-Conner.

Multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment against Weinstein came to light in an Oct. 5 New York Times exposé, in which eight women—including actress Ashley Judd—accused Weinstein of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior. The NYT report also reported McGowan was part of a settlement with Weinstein in 1997 following an encounter in a hotel room with Weinstein during the Sundance Film Festival. McGowan later accused him of rape on Twitter.

A second story by The New Yorker saw more women come forward and accuse the mogul of harassment and assault.

More women leveled allegations of sexual misconduct against Weinstein, including Cara DelevingneGwyneth Paltrow, and Angelina Jolie, in the days that followed.

A spokesperson for Weinstein previously told People in a statement that “any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein.”

Netflix Reveals the Shows That You Binge Watched the Fastest

Netflix Reveals the Shows That You Binge Watched the Fastest

In a rare look at Netflix’s closely guarded viewership numbers, the company revealed this week that 8.4 million users have watched an entire TV show season within 24 hours of its release, a habit the streaming service calls “binge racing.”

Netflix, which unveils entire seasons of original shows at once and has taken steps in recent years to make binge watching easier for users, said binge racing is a “sport” for television superfans.

“There’s a unique satisfaction that comes from being the first to finish a story — whether it’s the final page of a book or the last, climactic moments of your favorite TV show,” Brian Wright, Netflix’s vice president for original series, said in a statement.

Of the top binge raced Netflix original television shows globally, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, Fuller House and Marvel’s The Defenders took the top three spots. Canada, the U.S. and Denmark were the three countries where people binge raced the fastest.

According to Netflix, the most binge raced show varied slightly by country. Canada, which had the highest percentage of binge racers, watched Trailer Park Boys the fastest. In Ecuador, fans raced to finish Fuller House, while Club de Cuervos was the most binge raced show in Mexico.
